Plot/Explanation:The world of Valara is unique from the other celestial homes in that its inhabitants include a variety of beasts, spirits, and humanoids. With its three main land masses— Faedor, the realm of the Fae and mythical beings; Astrador, the kingdom of man; and Etrya, the land of Elementals—it is indeed a diverse and wonderful place. However, not all is sunshine and rainbows in this land that has been forgotten by time. To the south, just off the coast of the smallest inhabitable island of Uslax, lies the perilous Umbraedor. It is here, after trekking through a dark forest and up the side of a steep mountain, that one will find the portal to the Nether—the Underworld. From this gate, deemed the Gate of the Eight Skulls, more insidious creatures are said to spring forth and roam the world. However, there have been rumors that more angelic creatures have spawned from this site as well… This AU focuses on a medieval-renaissance fantasy setting where members may choose to be a fantastic creature, practitioner of magic/mystic arts, or normal humans. Because of the numerous towns and kingdoms, there is some conflict that has arisen…especially due to a few ambitious nobles wishing to claim more land as their own and issues between man and the land’s more magical inhabitants. Helpful Links/Information:- Keep in mind that this verse emphasizes more on the traditional “Fantasy” genre that includes a plethora of dragons, dungeons, trolls, goblins, gnomes, magic out the wazzoo, knights, princesses, goblins, dwarves, elves, wizards and the like in a medieval sort of setting. Think of something along the lines of Dragon Age, The Elder Scrolls, or Dungeons & Dragons!
- Note: The locations listed on the maps are only notable cities, larger towns, and capitals. If you need/want to say your character is visiting or is from a place that is not on the map (ie: a small human enclave in the Cremn Mountains), that's fine. We just can't add every little thing to the maps or it'll get really cluttered!
- This place is a great help for naming fantasy-related stuff!
- There is a current ban on Draconian (Dragon/dragon-like) characters and companions.

Erdia Mountains – Stone giants and golem call this place home. It consists mostly of slick grey rock, but its caps are covered in snow.
Feiur Peaks – located in the heart of the Sands of Baern, it is a volcanic mountain range. Many fire elementals and magma-loving creatures call this place home. Watch out for the lava geysers!
Fluewen River – A peaceful river that flows through the middle of Etrya. Water elementals often float up and down the river or can be found along its banks.
Grier Pond – A small reservoir and bubbly spring between the swamplands and the forest. It has several small tributaries that feed into the swamp in order to keep its ground nice and mushy. Bathing in it is not advised since it’s rather murky and smelly.
Iciklee Fields – A frozen tundra that lies at the southern part of Etrya and at the foot of the Erdia Mountains. Ice wraiths and the like are commonly found here.
Noxium Marsh – A vast swam with many Cyprus trees and quicksand. It always seems to be muggy and rather dark. Some of the swamp gases it gives off are toxic to most beings—especially humans, but it is possible to travel there.
Sands of Baern – A scorching dessert that many say is akin to hell on earth. Few people visit and manage to make it out alive.
Schtenfeld – A relatively small forest located in Etrya. Plant and forest elementals love to linger here. Cremn Rise – The largest of two mountain ranges located in southern Astrador.
Emerald River – The longest and easternmost river in Astrador. Its name comes from the fact that its waters always appear to shimmer with a rich green hue. This is due to the rich foliage and thick forest that surrounds and is reflected by the river.
Fargoelan Mountains - These mountains are located in the east of Astrador and stretch right up to the city of Astrana.
Hozolam Beck – A small but wide relatively wide river in the south of Astrador. It frequently dries up if there is not enough rainfall.
Pool of the Moon – A large hot spring located to the west of the Dragon’s Back and near a fae settlement. It is thought to have healing powers. Its waters appear grey and stony (as if a piece of the moon had fallen right into the pool) due to the clay at the bottom of the spring.
The Bronze Summit – The westernmost mountain range in Astrador. Its name comes from the phenomenon one may witness when the sun sets over the mountains and to the west. Due to the angle of the sun and the make-up of the mountains, the tops appear bronze. Mages favor this location due to his mystical appearance.;
The Dragon’s Back – The central-most mountain range in Astrador that is also the biggest and has the highest summits. Dwarves favor living here more than elsewhere on the continent. Other, larger cave dwellers may find this area favorable due to its ideal location and the difficulty it presents to adventurers who wish to scale it.
The Great Wilds – This wood takes up a vast majority of Astrador’s land. Many large game animals can be found here.
The Withered Bluff – The smallest of two mountain ranges located in southern Astrador. It has been severely worn down over the centuries—its tops are actually flat.
Vyth Reservoir - The second largest lake in Astrador. It is fed by both the spring water from the Pool of the Moon and from a smaller tributary that flows from the Bronze Summit. Its water is rich with minerals which in turn makes its banks and neighboring land rather ideal for farming.
Waerrun – Westernmost river in Astrador.
Whispering Lake – The largest lake in Astrador and Valara. It is surrounded by woods and mountains, has the lowest elevation in Astrador. Because of its acoustics (and being in something of a huge valley) it is able to pick up on the smallest of sounds, thus making it seem like the area is always whispering to its visitors. Don't go here if you're susceptible to paranoia or insanity! Cresentridge – A large mountain range in the center of Faedor that is in the form of a (n inverted) broken crescent. It acts as a protective barrier to the beings that live in its valley and its shape is mirrored by the Mahna-Daerin River.
Daemara Dunes – Located in the west of Faedor, it is an arid and unforgiving dessert, but is rich with several key spell ingredients if you know where to look and how to get them.
Faespire Peaks – A small mountain range in the southern region of Faedor. It is rumored to house a Fairy shrine.
Fogdan Mountains – Prized for its mining community and rich ore and mineral deposits. Several dwarven Strongholds call it home.
Ladya Lake – A favored lake for water sprites and nymphs it is located in the southern region of Faedor.
Mahna-Daerin River – The largest river in Faedor. It flows from the Well of Thea’farin into the Dividing Sea via the Mahna tributary, and into Lake Ladya in the south via the Daerin tributary.
Norfelk River– A cold-flowing river in the north of Faedor. It freezes easily during the winter months.
Well of Thea’farin – This Spring is nestled within the Cresentridge mountain range and is something akin to a holy site – at least to fantastical creatures and demi-humans (such as fae, elves, dwarves, hobbits, and gnomes, etc). Its waters are crystal clear and remain at a constant and comfortable, albeit slightly cool, temperature throughout the year. Three large demi-human capitals (elves, fae, and dwarves) are located near this site.
Selva Wood – The vast forest that takes up a majority of Faedor’s landscape. Many beings call this wood home and it has a mysterious and relaxing air about it. However, it can be quite unnerving at night and in certain locations.
Crymea River – A rather lazy river that flows from Lake Ahboss into the Cabant Abyss.
Falconnine Forest – A small wood on Uslax. It’s known for its rather capable birds of prey and many falconers make a journey here in order to gain a quality companion.
Lake Ahboss – It is fed by underground springs and its waters always seem to reflect the sky above like a mirror. It is extremely serene and a rather secluded vacation spot for many beings. Darkcut Crag - The steepest mountain in all of Valara. Those wishing to trek to the top of it must ensure they are sure footed and extremely brave (or foolhardy). The Gate off the Eight Skulls can be found at its summit.
Grimduel River – Flows from a spring at the top of Darkcut Crag to and into the Cobant Abyss. It is riddled with violent rapids and sharp falls.
Shadow Pine - A thick, dark forest that covers the entirety of Umbraedor. It is filled with dangerous creatures and poisonous, carnivorous, and rare plants. |
