Though Dandelion is our default theme and the pictures etc have been made to match it, you can change the theme back to the darker old one, if you prefer working with a darker background.
You can change between them via the theme selection in the Settings tab of the Edit Profile option. Thanks!
Also I got no clue why the old theme is appearing to some right off. I cannot fix that, unfortunately, but you can swap themes easily via the method mentioned above.
