It was both nerve-wracking and exhilarating to be at a new school where she hardly knew anyone. This was a new opportunity for Amelia to make first impressions on those around her..and this was both a good thing and a bad thing. She'd built up her reputation the way she'd wanted it for the most part in high school, and even if she did something that was considered out of character for her, it didn't have much of an impact on her reputation overall because people already knew Amelia and one thing that might stand out as a bit odd wouldn't have much of a bearing. In college though? Amelia had to start anew. No one knew her here, which meant that she didn't have a reputation..and if she made one wrong move, it might set her down the wrong course for the next four years..at least.
Amelia knew that she had more than four years of schooling left to go, but grad school was far enough off that Amelia hardly considered if she would stick around for grad school or venture out to a different school. But one couldn't get very far in the field of astrophysics with just a bachelor's degree. As much focus as Amelia was putting on school though, she knew she wouldn't be able to stand it if she didn't make some friends. Amelia was an extrovert, and she was already starting to feel immensely lonely. Hell, she didn't even have a roommate yet! So..Amelia decided to go on Operation: Make New Friends! What did said operation involve? ..Amelia hadn't really gotten that far ahead yet. She might have her future career all mapped out, but she was a lot more impulsive in her day to day life. Sometimes to her detriment.
Her first move..try to find someone who either looked approachable, or familiar in some way. During her search, she finally spotted a brunette girl that she was fairly certain that she'd spotted during freshman orientation, and she approached the girl immediately without a second thought. "Oh hey! Didn't I see you at the freshman orientation too? Didn't get a chance to talk to you there! Name's Amelia, hope we can get to know each other some during our time here!" Amelia smiled and extended a hand for the other girl to shake.
Forward? Yes. Perhaps too forward, by some definitions. But it also felt good. It eliminated the opportunity for a 'what if' to crop up..what if she'd never introduced herself to this girl after seeing her at orientation? What if they were fated to be best friends? What if Amelia E. Jones was getting way too far ahead of herself? She probably was..but she wasn't particularly concerned by it. Honestly, she just hoped that she would be able to strike up a conversation with this girl, especially since she hadn't seen her with any others yet. So not only was Amelia potentially saving herself from loneliness, she was potentially saving this girl from it as well! And that was exactly what a good heroine should do - Step in when they saw someone that was in need

She didn't think she could handle this life. In high school everything seemed far simpler than now, Lucia was confused on how to feel about making it into college. "What am I going to do?" The question kept springing up into her mind to the point she almost wanted to stop thinking completely, she was dealing with an unfamiliar environment and was just so lost, from what had once been stable years in high school all of a sudden she was back to being one of the younger students in an educational institution, she knew practically no one whatsoever....
Well, almost no one. However, she couldn't rely on her family that was for sure, Lucia didn't want to burden Feliciano or Marco with this nonsense and her own brother was completely useless and even worse than she had remembered him, especially after realizing the state he was in. So Lucia was alone to try and make her own friends, to build a foundation to make friends in college, but as always it was hard for her. Lucia was very well aware of the Italian stereotype to be extremely talkative and whatnot, yet stereotypes were just that... Stereotypes. In reality, Lucia was quite shy, her situation was not improved with the new environment she had to live in, it would take a little while for her to open up that was for sure, currently her accommodation consisted of her being alone for the moment, but she hadn't yet decided whether she will eventually share with someone else... She had to make up her mind up soon, that was for sure. Not only that, but she had to find friends as well! The last thing Lucia wanted to be perceived as was an outcast or a meek loner, always seeming distant to the outside world. At that thought, she sighed..... Making friends was the hard part...
What happened next, was something that Lucia would later regard as a miracle, however, at the time it was nothing short of terrifying. From another person's perspective, Lucia seemed to be in a trance as she was walking only to have her train of thought derailed by an unexpected arrival by a blond student. Now that she saw the girl she seemed to remember seeing her in orientation, to be honest, Lucia was scanning the room at the time not looking for anyone in particular, but she definitely did recall seeing the girl, she smiled a lot and seemed so confident. Lucia envied this girl's ability to be confident about starting a new chapter in their lives with seemingly no fear.
"Oh hey! Didn't I see you at the freshman orientation too? Didn't get a chance to talk to you there! Name's Amelia, hope we can get to know each other some during our time here!"
At first, Lucia was a little suspicious of this greeting. Undoubtedly, she was grateful for the opportunity to talk with someone, yet at the same time, she was a little confused why this, Amelia would go to her of all the girls that she saw at orientation... After all, Lucia would have nominated herself for the most awkward and quiet of the new students. To be honest, Amelia and Lucia seemed to be polar opposites... Nevertheless, Lucia awkwardly shook Amelia's hand, while trying to respond in a way that didn't come across as fearful to the other girl, after all, Lucia was petrified of what one wrong action could do to a person's reputation.
"I-I think we did see each other, y-yes. Ummmm, nice to meet you, Amelia, my name's Lucia. I-it would be nice to know each other...."
In her mind, she sounded absolutely pathetic, here she was barely able to talk to Amelia and had seemingly become a nervous wreck. Lucia desperately wanted Amelia to be a friend, yet it seemed that this dream may as well be over at this time. Amelia seemed so much braver, cheerful and seemed quite able to handle herself, which raised a question in Lucia's. Why is this obviously better girl talking to me? She must have her own friends surely?" Summing up what little courage she had at the moment, Lucia tried to show Amelia that she probably wasn't the friend that the blond would necessarily want.
"Look, Amelia, I'm sorry, but I don't think I would be a good friend.... I-If we ever would be ... I-I'm not really good at talking and you surely must have your own friends. Y-you, seem like a girl lots of people would get along with. Me on the other hand... well...."
Little did Lucia realize that Amelia herself didn't have friends on campus either. But the blond girl just seemed so much in her element that it was impossible for Lucia to even realize such a possibility that both of them did not have friends and so desperately needed someone else to talk to and even create a lifelong friendship.

When the other girl turned her attention to Amelia as well, Amelia beamed. Oh good, she was willing to talk to her, and she remembered seeing Amelia at orientation as well. That was a good sign, and would make breaking the ice a lot easier. She even introduced herself as Lucia! Then, Amelia's grin slowly began to morph into a confused frown. Was she being rejected? But then Lucia continued to speak. Amelia wasn't being rejected, at least not for anything that she did. In fact, Lucia turned on herself and began saying that she was the one who wouldn't make a good friend, because..she wasn't good at talking? Oh, nonsense! If anything, that made Amelia even more eager to be Lucia's friend, because Amelia could do enough talking for the both of them!
"Well that's even more reason for us to be friends, isn't it? If you have a hard time talking, I can help you. And I'm sure a lot of people would get along with you too..I mean, you seem really great!" The grin was back on Amelia's face as she looked Lucia up and down. Yes, Lucia's words made Amelia even more eager to befriend Lucia. Lucia seemed nice, though shy..and Amelia could definitely try to bring someone out of their shell. Amelia could be self-depreciating as well, but her coping mechanism was the opposite of Lucia's. Instead of retreating back into herself, Amelia pointed all of it outward and became hyper-obsessed with her reputation. She just hadn't expected the girl to be quite this (apparently) shy when she first approached her. All the more reason it was good that they were meeting, then!
Next, Lucia mentioned Amelia having more friends on campus..and Amelia shook her head at once. "I just started here like you did! I haven't really had the chance to make too many friends yet. I came up to you because you seemed really nice from what I saw at orientation." Really nice..that was a good way to boost up her confidence, wasn't it? It sounded like Lucia's confidence was what needed a boost before anything else. If she thought that being shy meant that she couldn't be a friend to Amelia, Amelia would have to prove her wrong.
You seem like a girl lots of people would get along with. While those words were flattering to Amelia, they also worried her because Lucia clearly didn't see herself in that way..and that bugged her. Honestly..people could probably get along with Lucia better than they did with Amelia. Lucia might be shy, but Amelia..well, she'd been told off for being too loud on multiple occasions in the past. This girl needed a major pep talk..good thing Amelia wasn't one to back down from a challenge easily. She'd do whatever she could to help this girl now

As she tried to save Amelia from what possibly could be a terrible friendship, the other girl seemed confused. At first, the brunette was worried that Amelia would take it the wrong way and quickly finished what she had to say before it seemed like she was rejecting the other girl's kindness. Lucia didn't realize however that the other girl wasn't fazed by such a warning, though when Lucia thought back to that first meeting, even she had to admit it was a little ridiculous, at the time it felt like the right thing to do at the time. Ah, how things can change.... Now it was her turn to be confused, despite her warning Amelia seemed to embrace the idea that even though she was on the quiet side, she could... help with that? Lucia wasn't sure what help Amelia could bring, although she didn't mention it out loud just hearing that someone could help her maybe open up a bit more was actually an excellent idea. That was something that she was always trying to do, maybe with the help of a new friend, things could be made easier? As Amelia went on talking, Lucia visibly blushed when the blond said that she seemed great, she was grateful for the compliment though she wasn't exactly sure what she had done to exactly gain the title of "great".
"You.... could help me?"
Once again the blond grinned, Amelia was wondering how upbeat someone could possibly be, maybe not as much as her cousins but Lucia was sure that Amelia would give both Feliciano and Marco a run for their money. The other girl also seemed very enthusiastic to befriend her, someone she had literally met seconds ago, that thought that nice people like Amelia existed in this college made Lucia finally smile herself. She was very willing to let this friendship workout, Amelia seemed to believe they would be the best of friends, Lucia herself though maybe a little dazed did not seem to believe that she would make a friend so quickly. Perhaps she should actually voice out that she wanted to be friends with Amelia, both of them surely stood to gain from such a warm atmosphere between the two of them. Though they seemed to be different on the surface, maybe they were quite similar? Lucia was a little surprised that Amelia didn't have more than 20 friends at this point. Perhaps she was wrong to suspect that just because Amelia had, what she thought was a likable personality, didn't exactly mean that she would befriend the entire campus so quickly, no matter how friendly or direct you were. Being called nice also made her a little jittery, she was usually described as a little naggy within her family... But nice? The brunette could honestly say that she was touched by Amelia's words, little did she realize that the blond had also done it to help boost her confidence, maybe Lucia was a little bit of an airhead? What made things better was that Amelia's word worked, Lucia was no longer as scared as she had seemed only a few seconds ago.
"Oh, thank you, Amelia. You're nice yourself, too! You're a very friendly person as well! Um.... Would you.... Are you sure you want to be friends? This seems so sudden, but I think I would like you as a friend..."
Instead of making things easier and simply saying that she would want to befriend Amelia, she had only made things harder, personally, Lucia wanted to slap herself at this moment, but Amelia had come almost out of nowhere just to get to know each other! Quickly, Lucia tried to fix her perceived mistake.
"I mean! Uh, I think being friends would be.... good...."
Ugh, why was this becoming hard just to simply tell someone that being friends were something they would want to do?

Now she was getting it! Lucia seemed to be coming around to the realization that Amelia could help her open up more. Amelia's own view on the matter was simple - If she didn't speak up, how would she know what she was letting pass her by? Then again, she'd always been something of an extrovert. She had a sister that was more shy like Lucia, so it wasn't like she didn't understand that people could be shy..but she couldn't really relate to that attitude? Maybe because one of her fears was fading into the woodwork and being ignored, and the best way to avoid doing that was to speak up to the point of almost being obnoxious (..or, sometimes in Amelia's case, surpassing that point..though she often didn't realize when she was going too far, admittedly).
Amelia smiled and gave Lucia a pat on the back. "Of course I can help you! I can encourage you, and I can teach you what to say and do in certain situations! You're not the first shy person I've met, my sister's pretty shy too!" Not that every shy person was alike, just like not every extrovert was alike - but Amelia was excited to think that she could do some good for Lucia, and was already getting a bit ahead of herself as a result. She was already mapping out what she would do in her head, even though she barely knew much about Lucia herself. That was probably the best place to start, honestly - The two of them getting to know each other, rather than diving in to a special project where Amelia went around with Lucia and introduced her to have of the school. Amelia didn't even know half of the school. Or a quarter..or even probably an eighth..
What Amelia didn't realize was that a friendship with Lucia might do her some good as well. Proof lay in Amelia's reaction to Lucia's comment. It drew her head out of the clouds and made her recall that, oh yes, Lucia was still standing in front of her and she needed to start off a bit slower. "You'd like me as a friend, I'd like you as a friend, there's nothing more to it! What are you studying by the way? I'm doing astrophysics..and doing a great job at it, I might add!" Amelia made her last statement with a bit of pride, but what might come across as boastful bragging was actually bravado. She'd already gotten less than stellar (pun not intended) reactions toward her major from people who told her that she couldn't handle it. So she was determined to cut off any such statements before they could even start.
..not that Lucia would necessarily make such statements. There she went getting ahead of herself again. She didn't even know what Lucia was studying, she just figured that would be a good place to start. They were both college students, and they were both getting to know each other - Why not find out why both of them were at the college in the first place? Perhaps they might even have something else in common! Amelia didn't think Lucia was in astrophysics, since she hadn't seen the other girl in any of her classes, but that didn't mean that their interests didn't overlap in one way or another

She had always been quite timid even at a young age, yet with family and people, she knew very well, she could manage to have a normal conversation. However, Lucia didn't want to think that this possible friendship could be just for her benefit, but in her eyes, she failed to see what Amelia could gain from being friends with her. Sure, Amelia could have someone to socialize with and talk to, but other than that it seemed like Amelia wouldn't gain much, in any case, whether either of them benefited from being friends didn't matter, wasn't being friendly enough? Lucia was a little surprised when Amelia pats her on the back, to be honest, the blond was one of the most extroverted people she had ever met! She was also very kind in helping her out as well, though the brunette wasn't quite sure how Amelia could actually help her, to her in almost seemed quite incomprehensible on how exactly she was going to get her confidence boosted, nevertheless Lucia would just have to be trusting and to wait and see. Hearing that Amelia's sister was also shy made Lucia skeptical whether what Amelia was aiming for was a little insurmountable, Lucia was finding Amelia to be well-meaning yet at times may be an over-optimistic girl. It was good to be optimistic, just not to the point where your objective seemed to be impossible.
"H-how will you help?"
As Amelia continued on it was good to hear that at least the other girl was enthusiastic about trying to be friends, so it was only logical that they knew more about each other than names. A good way to start was predictably what studies they were both taking, chemistry was a little surprising for some of her family (though they didn't exactly expect much from her) but she was quite a committed student in the science field. She enjoyed the subject but wasn't exactly someone who liked it very much or fretted over it, Lucia almost seemed to think of it as rather a hobby rather than anything else. Lucia was however very interested to hear what Amelia's subject was, what could this girl be here for? Amelia's further comments surprised her a lot... Astrophysics? She didn't want to admit it, but Lucia didn't exactly expect that subject to be Amelia's she seemed far too.... What was the word? Down to earth?
Perhaps Lucia shouldn't delve any further, she really didn't want to question Amelia's intelligence and she wouldn't dare label the blond girl a liar, but astrophysics!? As Amelia continued although may seem like bragging, Lucia saw Amelia's added comment that she was doing well as almost a way to challenge her to think otherwise, or maybe it was to convince her that Amelia wasn't lying, whatever it was meant to do Lucia accepted what her new found friend said. She probably shouldn't judge people too quickly, particularly one that wanted to be friends and had been very nice....
"Oh, astrophysics? I heard that was really hard, you must know lots about maths and all that.... I'm studying chemistry, so I guess we're science buddies?"
Science buddies? Well they weren't studying the same field, but Lucia felt that her statement kind of worked out?

From what she could tell thus far, Lucia seemed a bit like her sister was in front of others? The qualifier 'in front of others' needed to be added of course, because her sister could be entirely different if she was comfortable with someone - and she assumed that the same could be said of Lucia. It was much the same concept as Amelia calming down somewhat around those that she knew. She was generally always outgoing and loud, but she actually did tend to calm down more around those that she knew well, for the simple fact that she felt more comfortable with them and did not feel the need to constantly be filling up any potential awkward silences with chit-chat. Amelia didn't think that she was being overly optimistic either..she really thought that working together, she and Lucia could really get Lucia to feel more comfortable!
Or at least give it a try. "Hmm, I guess it depends on what you're worried about? If it's talking to people you don't know by yourself, I could be there for you when you're first meeting them so you have some back-up! Could also introduce you to my friends!" ..well, once she found some more friends at Gakuen. She was still in the process of adjusting to the change in surroundings, and that meant building up friendships once again. And just because someone was extroverted didn't mean they could build strong friendships out of the blue.
After stating her major, Amelia looked closely at Lucia for any signs of disapproval. As boisterous and proud as she seemed, she really struggled with her insecurities when it came to proving that she could actually be intelligent in subjects that she cared about. "That depends on your definition of hard, but yeah, I'm pretty good with math. If you're majoring in chemistry you must be pretty good with sciences too! That's awesome!" She clapped her hands together in excitement. Another girl that was a science major? This was even better than Amelia thought! Sure, she and Lucia might be following different paths, but they were still heading for STEM careers. Perhaps they would even had a couple of classes together!
Not only could they potentially be friends, but they could be science buddies on top of that? Amelia was growing increasingly glad that she'd opted to meet up with Lucia to avoid a certain 'what if'. Even if she hadn't approached Lucia now she might have met Lucia eventually, but why wait? The main thing Amelia worried about was her gen ed classes..she was fairly confident about her science and math classes..but she didn't want bad grades in gen ed classes to ruin her chances of following her dreams. Her smile faded ever so slightly at this thought

While so far they had talked about how they could help Lucia, as the two continued to talk, the brunette was starting to learn more about Amelia as a person, piece by piece of course. Amelia seemed upbeat and quite determined, but also perhaps a little insecure? Lucia felt that the blond was proud of herself, but at times perhaps also insecure of herself, this was made plainly obvious when she had mentioned her major, Lucia felt ashamed that she assumed that Amelia was joking at first, she couldn't exactly picture Amelia as an astrophysicist. If Amelia truly believed that Lucia could change, well... It was definitely worth it to give it a try! The blond's idea was interesting, perhaps it would be easier if they both talked to new people? At least then they could make friends together while brushing up on socializing skills, it seemed that both of them probably needed it.
"I... guess that could work? I mean, that sounds like a good idea... Wait, I thought you said you didn't know many people here yet?"
Amelia seemed so sure she would get friends it was actually inspiring! Maybe, the fact Lucia wasn't very confident in her own ability to gain friends was a problem. Perhaps an attitude change was in order? The blond seemed to wait for Lucia to say something after she had told the brunette of her subject, almost as if she was expecting judgment or a cruel joke, this was almost surely a sign that she had been possibly ridiculed and criticised for choosing a subject that was deemed to "hard" for Amelia. First looks were quite deceiving, Lucia after processing what Amelia's subject was, concluded that the other girl was far more than she seemed. She couldn't help but smile when Amelia clapped her hands together, once again Lucia admired the other girl's energy and excitement for the things ahead, shouldn't Lucia herself be excited, she had to show some emotion or happiness somewhere, why not now?
"That is pretty awesome! We may even have a few classes together, right?
Finally, Lucia seemed to have reached a stage where it was comfortable to talk with Amelia, though she may be a little awkward, she trusted Amelia well enough to perhaps have less of an awkward conversation with the other girl! This time smiling and feeling a warm sensation of relief that she had found a friend, she was left dumbfounded by Amelia's smile fade slightly, almost immediately Lucia's mind was scrambling to figure out what she had done. Did Lucia offend her newfound friend? The brunette didn't remember any insults or perceived wrong words! With a worried expression on her face, Lucia found herself desperately trying to find out what had happened, the last thing she wanted was to lose a new friend so quickly!
"Uh, is there something wrong Amelia?

A lot of people couldn't picture Amelia as an astrophysicist, and this was something that frustrated Amelia immensely. It would be one thing if she was simply trying to prove herself - though that was admittedly a part of it too, of course - but Amelia genuinely had a passion for the subject. And for others to pass it off like it wasn't something that a ditzy girl like her could handle? It was insulting, it was hurtful..and yet Amelia didn't want to admit that such comments and reactions hurt her, because that would mean that they would have even more to critique her about. So instead she played everything in the other direction, playing up the assets that she had and practically daring anyone to tell her that she couldn't do it, because she would prove them wrong if it was the last thing she'd do!
"I don't yet, but that's only because I've only been here a short time! I'm sure we'll both get to know a lot of the other students here. All we have to do is go to a few parties!" Amelia looked positively excited..a college party? Would they be just like they were in the movies? Granted, they didn't always pan out the greatest in the movies, but they were always memorable experiences whether they went well or not..and Amelia was eager to participate in one herself. She could take (read: drag) Lucia along with her, and they would be well on their way to making all sorts of new friends! And by going to parties, they didn't have to just stick with other freshman either..they could get to know some of the older students at the school!
She was also excited at the prospect of having a few classes with Lucia, and she nodded with a grin in response to that comment. Then, Lucia made a comment that Amelia immediately tried to play off. "Nah, nothing's wrong. Just thinking about what classes we might have together! What are you taking now?" She wanted to steer away from the subject, because she was confident in her abilities in math and science and she did not want anyone to question those - especially since those were the first two subjects she was usually given grief about.
It was those darn gen ed classes that she found frustrating. Amelia could be quite intelligent and hard-working in subjects that she found interesting, but ones that she was not into as much? She had a hard time focusing on those classes, and thus a hard time giving as much effort to those classes. This hadn't caused her too many problems in high school, but in college she needed those gen ed requirements out of the way so she could take more classes for her major. It put her in a bit of a dilemma

It was daunting just being confronted by Amelia, ambitions to go even further such as meeting other students and going to parties was in a word: terrifying, to her at least. Though she didn't like it, Lucia understood that it was going to be a reality that would definitely happen someday, she would have to quickly adjust herself before that day comes! Going to parties would be beneficial, though she had heard some parties could be pretty wild, she was looking for her elder brother to see if he'd at least help her get settled in, knowing his personality though this was a very outlandish hope. It was painfully clear she couldn't rely on family for help, but that's what friends like Amelia were for, right?
"So if we just go to parties, we'll fit in?"
Lucia wasn't exactly sure, but usually when a smile fades that had to be associated to something not so happy being on someone's mind. They were said to be friends now (when does someone become a friend?) so she at least had to try and comfort a friend who was maybe feeling a little down, maybe even support them. What Amelia was dealing with on the otherhand was a mystery, it was clear the other girl wanted to drop it but.... Maybe she should say something? Lucia had to not appear rude about it, after all when she wasn't in the mood to talk she was quick to want to shut everyone away and deal with her emotions herself, whether Amelia was similar or not was going to be difficult to know if she didn't find out now.... It may not even be that bad!
"You know Amelia, you can talk about it if you want too. After all, friends should be there for the other! Are you sure there's nothing wrong?
Hopefully, Amelia will be able to tell her what was troubling her. That being said, if Amelia wanted to know about what was troubling Lucia, she very much doubted that she'd be able to tell her friend, but maybe that would change with time? If they were going to be there supporting one another, they had to start at one point, so why not now? Maybe then, they'd both know that they could lean on the other in times of trouble.
Sorry @ameliaj, you didn't deserve to wait this long at all

What Lucia found terrifying Amelia found exciting - for the most part. Sure, there was an element of nervousness and fear mixed in for Amelia as well, but it was eclipsed by the feeling of excitement at potentially meeting new friends. She just hoped that she would make a good impression! She was a freshman after all, and planned to attend the school for at least four more years (possibly more if she didn't transfer once she made it to graduate school). She wanted to start that off right, not by screwing up early on in her first year and giving herself a bad reputation before she had a chance to build up a cushion. Nor did she want to bring Lucia down..she wanted Lucia to come out of her shell and make some friends as well! Fortunately, the fact that she planned on dragging Lucia along actually helped Amelia's own confidence.
Though Lucia's assumption that it was as simple as just attending parties caused Amelia to giggle. "Well no, it's a little bit more complicated than that. We have to go to parties and start talking to people and getting to know them. Then we can make friends with them!" Easy enough for Amelia to say, but what she neglected to stop and realize was that Lucia might find this endeavor a lot more difficult. She was getting ahead of herself in her excitement again, and thus ignored the fact that Lucia went so far as to stutter when Amelia started talking to her earlier in the conversation. But..surely the fact that she'd have Amelia along would help too? Amelia could even do most of the talking at first, at least until Lucia felt more comfortable.
Then Lucia made a comment that made Amelia's thoughts stop in their cracks. Damn..Lucia did have a point. "Just thinking about homework. Gotta make sure to make enough time in the day for that! Hey, we could study together!" Amelia clapped her hands together..and she somewhat answered Lucia's question without going into too much detail on how much pressure Amelia was putting on herself to succeed. She didn't just want to do good, she wanted to stand out, to leave no one doubting that she deserved this.
And honestly, maybe studying with someone would help her nerves some. Though she and Lucia wouldn't be taking all of the same classes, they were still both science girls, which meant that there had to be some overlap. There were also core classes that were required for students to graduate regardless of what their majors were, so there was a chance that they could have one or more of those classes together as well. Plenty of potential opportunities, in other words
[I'm sorry she gets so over-excited and talkative XD]

One of the scariest things about meeting new people was the fear of not being accepted by them or not being taken seriously. In the event of going to parties, Lucia would most likely cling to Amelia to try and fit in if possible, something that would seem almost childlike, even for her. Lucia was familiar with high school parties such as some food and playing video games with friends, the thought of her old friends saddened her a little, though Amelia was undeniably a new friend, she would have unquestionably have wished if her high school friends were here. Nonetheless, she was unfamiliar how parties in college were like and she had heard they could certainly be wild. She found herself blushing when Amelia giggled, had she said something stupid? Immediately, her mind started racing to try and understand what exactly she had said wrong, It wasn't long until she found out. Well, what Amelia said wasn't wrong, but it was just a struggle to talk with her new friend, some people may not be as nice as Amelia!
"Oh.... oh yeah... Huh..."
It was a little odd that Amelia was already thinking about homework, in any case, she wasn't wrong, inevitably there would be homework, something Lucia was never fond of at all. Did Amelia struggle with making time for homework? There probably wouldn't be any reason to think about homework at this time, in any case, Lucia didn't pay too much attention to this, studying together, on the other hand, was a good idea that Amelia had thought up of.
"Yeah, studying together would be a good idea! If you're worried about homework we can both work together and help each other right?"
Unknown to Lucia, Amelia had put pressure on herself to excel in her classes, Lucia had no such pressures put on herself nor her family. Her family cared more about what her elder brother achieved rather than her own progress in education, she also didn't believe that she should have to pressure herself too much, after all, she could only do as well as she possibly could. Sometimes though she felt bitter about her family, her parents seemed to care very little about her and paid their undivided attention to Lovino. Sometimes it was appreciated, due to Lucia's screw-ups being often ignored, but whenever she actually did something noteworthy, she honestly felt quite neglected, even isolated at times from her own family, they always wanted to know what Lovino was doing rather than what she was doing, regrettably. Speaking of Lovino, where was he? Lucia began to just look around for a little around the area, her mom had told her that Lovino would meet her to help her get settled yet he wasn't here.....
"Where is he?"
[Don't worry XD. This one is the exact opposite]

It might have been a bit early in the year to start thinking about homework, but Amelia wanted to make sure that she did well in college. She wanted to prove all of those naysayers wrong! And what better way to do that than to get the best grades that she possibly could? She hadn't put this much consideration into her high school grades, but that was different. She'd wanted to go to college, yes, but she didn't feel the need to prove herself as much back then as she did now. But she also wanted to make sure that she still had time for things that she enjoyed as well. She didn't think that she would be able to handle it if she were trapped in her dorm all day doing schoolwork. She needed time to balance things out, didn't she? Studying with a friend, as she'd suggested, was one way that she could go about this!
Amelia smiled when Lucia agreed with her suggestion. She could even help Lucia if need be, which helped to take the edge off of the idea that she might need help at any point. "Exactly, since some of the things we're studying may overlap. We might even have some classes together! It would make sense for us to tackle it together!" Amelia smiled, glad that they seemed to be on the same page as far as the whole thing was concerned. Amelia wasn't an only child, but the one sibling that she did have was a younger sibling, so Amelia was the first child to experience the hopes and dreams of her parents. And yet it was Amelia who was putting the most pressure on herself out of anyone, even if she felt as though others around her had high expectations of her.
She was mildly surprised when Lucia started looking around, then asked where 'he' was. Amelia wasn't entirely sure which 'he' Lucia was referring to, but she was willing to help if need be. "Are you looking for someone? Who is he? What does he look like?" Amelia began to peer around as well. She didn't have much to go on yet, other than looking for a guy, but it was a start. She did need a bit more of a description before she could do much else though.
Overall, Amelia was more curious than anything else. She didn't know much about Lucia yet (though neither did Lucia know that much about her), and any opportunity she had to learn more about Lucia she would seize! Had she come out here for a reason in the first place? Was she supposed to be meeting someone? 'Where is he' implied that, though she was surprised Lucia hadn't said anything sooner to her if that was indeed the case

The mere thought of homework was enough to put her off the subject. Whether Amelia was fearful of homework or not was something Lucia would find out in the future, she would try to do her best if possible to help her friend with whatever came her way, after all, two heads were generally better than one. Judging by what Amelia was studying, Lucia had to assume that the other girl was quite smart, her own skills on the otherhand made her feel as if the outcome of her ability to work were quite shaky.
Though, a question that did jump out at Lucia, which was asking why Amelia would be afriad of homework? While it lingered in her mind for a few seconds, Lucia eventually dropped it and looked around the area. Amelia herself looked surprised and fired off three quick questions, which caught Lucia off guard, but after some moment of reflection, Lucia eventually answered each one.
"Uh..... yes..... He's my older brother..... And he looks kind of looks like me, but taller, shorter hair and a sort of curl...... He was supposed to be here....."
Lovino's absence worried Lucia, herp parents had told her to expect Lovino to help her get settled in, knowing her brother on the otherhand he probably just ignored this and was in God know's where. The pressure that he had placed on him by mom and dad were unfair, yet that didn't mean he had to act all angry and just be an ass in general. Before Amelia in what seemed like a random choice picked her out of the crowd, she had (very shyly) asked if they knew where Lovino was, all she got in return was a couple of sniggers. Not exactly the most promising start to a search that was for sure.
"He was meant to help me get settled in and all that, but he's not here.... He's kind of like that...."

It wasn't so much that Amelia was fearful of homework in itself, but rather she had a drive..an obsession with doing well and would have a hard time accepting anything but the best. And it wasn't even that she simply wanted the best for herself - She wanted the best for herself because she thought that no one would accept anything less from her. She had to make her family proud, she had to prove the naysayers wrong, and..yes, she had to prove to herself that she could do it, but that wasn't the only driving point. She also had to make sure that she had good enough grades for grad school, because she didn't think that a bachelor's degree would cut it in order to go as far as she wanted to. When it came to something like this? It was hard for Amelia to take things one step at a time.
Therefore it was somewhat of a welcoming distraction when the subject shifted. "Your brother goes here? That's awesome, how long has he been here? What is he studying?" Those questions might be a tad personal, but Amelia didn't think that Lucia would have any issues answering them at this point. They weren't personal questions about her, they were questions about her brother! She ran a hand through her hair as she peered around once more upon hearing Lucia's description of her brother, but she had yet to spot anyone who fit it.
It was around that same point that Lucia seemed to realize the same thing, as she commented that her brother was nowhere to be found. Amelia frowned, though she couldn't exactly bring herself to disagree with something that was plain to see by anyone with eyes. "That sucks that he's not here. I could help you instead? Or we could help each other?" Amelia couldn't help but giggle a little. Her automatic reaction was to offer Lucia help, and yet she wasn't in a much better position than Lucia was. She was more outgoing and found it easier to talk to people, but she was still knew at the school and still trying to find her way around. Lovino as Lucia's older brother had clearly been at the school for at least a year, so he would know better.
..nevertheless, Amelia had no plans to leave Lucia on her own now. If her older brother who was supposed to help her was going to stand her up, she'd just have to be the good friend that she said she would be and take up the duty instead
