There were some who might argue that Amelia was pushing herself too hard..but Amelia saw herself as having no other options. She needed to succeed, because she needed to prove that she could do it. She didn't go into astrophysics simply to prove herself - She wouldn't do something like that, she clearly had a genuine interest in the subject. But she still felt an innate need to prove herself, because what other option did she have? When she set out to do something, failure was not an option that she could accept. Especially when it was something so..unexpected. There were still those in her life who found it absurd and unbelievable that someone like Amelia was looking toward a career that illustrious. One particular asshole even informed her not to give up, that she'd eventually find that coveted spot she was looking for - As a secretary. (She might or might not have spilled a hot drink on him afterward..oops).
All of this meant that Amelia would not let herself fail, but it also meant that she wouldn't ask for help at any point. She dabbed concealer under the bags under her eyes when they reared their ugly heads. She chugged down coffee and energy drinks (never tea though) when she needed caffeine to keep her awake so that she could work on a project. And that was happening more and more often lately. It wasn't even that she could not handle her major - She was a lot more intelligent than others gave her credit for, at least when it came to math and science (she was still horrible at geography though). It was more that Amelia's drive to prove herself meant that she was taking more classes than she could handle simply to prove that she could, when..for the sake of her own health she should probably concede that dropping a class or two and taking them again later was the best option.
Needing a boost after getting out of her last class of the day, Amelia opted to stop by the cafe. "I'll take a caramel latte, please! With extra shots of caramel!" Amelia told the barista her drink order, a huge smile on her face. She didn't really have a 'usual', as she liked to switch things up every once in a while. There were a certain few drinks that she did prefer over others though..and the drink that she'd just ordered was one of those. The baristas at the cafe knew her well enough to recognize her, though of course it helped that she also attended school with most of them.
Instead of standing around, Amelia opted to take a seat near the counter so that she could hear when her name was called and her drink was ready. She did start to pull out her laptop, planning on at least getting started on one of her assignments for her physics class in the meantime. But if someone wanted to approach her and talk? She had no qualms about that either. She was still a freshman, and she was still trying to find her niche. But she was social enough. She could make friends. She could balance it all!Even when she couldn't
