Moving quietly as he could, Gilbert frowned as he listened. It was these types of monsters that he hated the most. All they did was seduce people and left them a wreck, obsessed with them until they were killed outright. They played with their pray. Gilbert respected the supernatural creatures that were honest in their intentions. Even if he ended up fighting them to take them out, he still respected them.
Pushing through the forest, he found an older house. He knew that this had to be the place. Not to far out of the way to never be found, but private enough to offer help for the lost and to take advantage. Sneaking around the house, he was trying to figure out the layout, if the incubus was at home or not. Once he got back around to the front, he fully left the forest, only to come back in, making sure his clothing looked like he had taken a few tumbles in the forest. While he was heading to the building as if he were lost in the woods and needed help, in truth, that was farthest from the truth.
Knocking on the door, he waited, bag slung over his shoulder as he tried his best to keep his heart rate slow and to remember everything he could about these foul demons. He needed to make sure to not eat to drink anything that could have their body fluid in it, and to not let any feelings get bin the way, especially arousal some of the demons like to cause with pheromones.

Unbeknownst to the man, he was being watched. But not by the demon he would have assumed. From a nearby tree, goldenrod colored eyes glinted like jewels in the dim light. His tails swished softly from the branch he was perched on, betraying his curiosity. The creature below him was certainly not the incubus he’d been watching for the past few weeks, but he certainly didn’t look like a normal human. He was definitely young, in his twenties, if Kiku had to guess. But certainly no older than thirty. And yet… silver hair stood out in unruly spikes, its color reminding the demon of moonlight reflecting off of water. And his eyes… what hue are they? Red? Violet? How very interesting. He was certainly human, he was cloaked in the telltale scent of a mortal.
And more than that, Kiku’s sharp nose picked up the traces of iron and salt that seemed intertwined into his natural scent.; a hunter’s scent most likely. That should probably worry the Nekomata, but after so long evading death, Kiku rarely feared any human. He was no threat, not compared to other creatures. He no longer preyed on humans, nor did he cause plague or misfortune. Mostly he just observed, a passive audience rather than an active participation in the events of the world. Most humans held little worth in his eyes, and he had no problem watching them stumble blindly through their lives (and occasionally into the grasp of other preternatural beings.)
So why was he so intrigued by this one? Hunter or not, he was clearly an idiot. After all, who charges in blindly into the nest of an incubus? And yet… Kiku didn’t want to see this one hurt. Whether is was the man’s unique coloration or just the sheer arrogance of him, Kiku couldn’t help but be intrigued.
Silently, he leapt from branch to branch, nearing closer to the strange human. Kiku actually winced as he landed on the branch closest to the house. The human, knocked, actually knocked on the front door! The idiot! Kiku’s tails swung more sharply in irritation. He just found something interesting and it was about to get snatched up. This couldn’t stand.
“Perhaps it’s not my place…” He finally spoke up, sitting upright on the tree as his voice oozed its disapproval. “But, do you have a death wish?”

There were many things Gilbert expected in this situation; the door to open, someone to speak from an open window, even for one of them to come up behind him. What he did not expect was to hear a voice above his head. But that was exactly what happened.
“Perhaps it’s not my place… But, do you have a death wish?”
Eyes widening a bit before narrowing as he looked around, he searched for the source of the voice, only to find nothing…. Well, not nothing, but a cat sitting in one of the many trees of the forest. Abandoning the door that it seemed like no one was going to answer, he walked closer to the tree, careful of any traps that might lay between it and the house. It was an interesting cat, a black one with… what color eyes were those? The cat was too far above him to really tell. Was this the guard dog of the things that inhabited the house, meant to throw him off? How interesting and different if he was. “Are you the one that spoke just now? I do not have a death wish, I’m just lost in these woods and I’m looking for a way out…” Gilbert could only laugh at himself shake his head.
“What am I doing, talking to a cat… Must have fallen on my head harder than I thought I did. Well, with the way my day is going, why not talk to a cat. Do you know the way out of the forest? I’ve gotten lost.”
Best to keep to the pre-established story he had, especially if this was a part of a trap meant for him. Less chance of it being seen through. Perhaps he would try to root out this little group later on.

Kiku let out a little sniff of irritation at the human’s story. “Do you take me for a fool, Hunter?” His voice was icy, even as his tails flicked in agitation. “Your scent betrays your pathetic story.” His eyes narrowed, still glowing faintly in the darkness.
He got up and stretched, back arching before lithely pouncing down to a lower branch. “Though you must not be much of a hunter, are you? Who attacks a incubus head on? You must either be incredibly arrogant or incredibly stupid.” He was definitely smirking now, the smugness in his tone almost palpable. “Though the fact that you believe a being like me to be a run of the mill cat makes me wonder… how could a hunter so… uninformed survive for very long?” He tilted his head, eying the silvered-hair man.
“Your target isn’t home, at the moment, but it will not take kindly to a stranger like you appearing at their door. You should go home and rethink your foolish plan. Any demon that relies on smell would pick apart your story just as easily as I have.” He paused, listening to the wind rustling through the trees, the crickets serenading into the night. “You should escape while you can, little hunter. It’s not safe for mortals in such an ancient forest.” He crossed his paws in front of him, his head tilting as he considered the human.
“Ah but you won’t right? You are far too prideful for that. You believe that it is your duty to rid the world of vile demons, no?” With a yawn, he sat up and shook himself. “How dull humans are, how terribly sanctimonious. You all believe that you deserve this planet more than my kind, and yet, what have you done to earn such a treasure? I honestly want to know.”
Yes, it was a test; Kiku couldn’t help himself. Life had gotten so boring recently and Kiku would give anything the alleviate the tedium, including nettling a hunter. Even if this hunter decided to turn on him, Kiku was hardly worried. It had been a long time since the Nekomata had been pitted against a human, he wondered how he would fare.
No matter what happened, at least he wouldn’t be bored any more.

“Do you take me for a fool, Hunter? Your scent betrays your pathetic story.”Oh, so that was it. Shifting slightly, Gilbert took on the presence of a hunter now instead of whatever he had been trying to project before. He just snorted. “Trying to lure them into false security actually. Though I’ll admit I didn’t think of my scent, thanks for that tidbit, I’ll keep it in mind in the future.”He could only watch the cat, eyes inquisitive but watching and now showing an intelligence that they didn’t before. He could only listen, but he didn’t agree with everything that was said. He thought he knew Gilbert, he thought he knew what drove him and why he did what he did. This demon kitty was so wrong about him; he could almost laugh. In fact, he did harshly. “You all believe that you deserve this planet more than my kind, and yet, what have you done to earn such a treasure? I honestly want to know.”“Just like all demons believe that all humans should die, am I correct? And how dull you must think me in order to actually stop and have a conversation with me… tell me, Demon Cat…” He moved to walk closer to the tree where the black cat was sitting. “Would you kill a man for satisfying his curiosity and trying to find some link that might lead back to his wife? I could care less about most of what you just said. Honestly, this is just to make some money. But, not that it’s any of your business, but I don’t attack good or neutral creatures… I go after the ones that get their fun out of hunting and killing humans… After all, everything has to have something that hunts it. The ones that leave us alone, I leave alone. I can live alongside the so called monsters, can you say the same yourselves of the humans that are just trying to protect?”
