Hey guys, as per the vote, (and us finally getting it sorted out), from henceforth, we will be implementing our Surprise!Zombie encounters!
So what is it?
Essentially, any thread in the Zombie Apocalypse forum (unless otherwise stated in the TITLE of the thread via the abbreviation NSZ) is applicable for having an NPC infected(s) pop up and post without warning. The NPC infected(s) will address those currently in the thread and attack/act appropriately. However, the NPC infected will not post continuously and after a few posts, the NPC account will provide a rather open-ended reply and their fate is ENTIRELY up to the RPers. They are there just to set the stage and to keep things interesting, after all.
Of course, if the NPC Infected gets a little too carried away or if you are just ready to move on, don't hesitate to tell the mods or leave an OOC comment in your post saying something like "Yo--kinda wanna just continue with the thread now; no more SZ for now please, thanks!" We don't want to hinder your plots and such after all!
You're still allowed to add in extra infected or the like if if WANT them -- we don't have to roll for you to do that, just do it if you want some more, or if you have a specific way you need/want the thread to go.
So how do we know if a Infected is going to pop into the thread?
Well you don't... But the mods, for every x member posts made in a thread that isn't abbreviated NSZ, will roll a percentage die. This means that if 2 members are posting in a thread, then a roll will be made for every second member post; for 3 participants, after every third post; for 4, after every fourth post, and so on. Open Threads will be adjusted accordingly. Keep in mind that since you are more likely to encounter a infected in residential areas/cities, the chances are higher than if you were to be in the wilderness (where there may be a sparse few...or a traveling horde, but the latter is reserved mostly for events or you to throw in yourself! We aren't going to be THAT evil to you...).
Ok... so what about the number of Infected and their ranks/class?
Glad you asked, we roll for those as well, and depending on the location and the situation, you can have anywhere from 1-20 infected ranging from Class 1-3 on your butt! But don't worry, for now we're excluding those pesky hypothetical Class 4 infected...so the most you have to worry about is someone that looks like your significant other trying to munch on your brain instead of a Super Infected. And fear not! We will use discretion with the numbers of infected depending on location, situation, and number of players in the thread.
Whoa...wait... how many surprise encounters are even possible in a single thread!?
Luckily for you, we're limiting the number of Mod-controlled NPC encounters to twice per thread in the wilderness and up to four times in city/residential areas -- again, it always depends on the location and situation. BUT, if you want more infected in your thread, you can always just introduce and play them for yourself, as mentioned before.
A short example of how an SZ encounter may pan out:
Ludwig and Alfred are in an old abandoned building searching for supplies for their group.
- NPC infected account posts and may see them (or may simply be walking along, paying them no mind at all.)
Ludwig and Alfred choose to confront the infected and a fight ensues. They want to dispatch the creature as soon as possible.
- NPC Infected wasn't actually alone, and five more are attracted by the sound of the scuffle. NPC reacts, and then leaves the RPers to decide what happens next with the infected ( alternatively NPC-to-Player post exchanges may go on for a few more turns depending on the situation).
Ludwig and Alfred react to the NPC actions and manage to fend off the infected. They can choose to go about their previous mission or pursue a new course depending on injuries, etc. The Members can also request that no more SZ's appear.

Also, DESIGNATED Main Bases/Safe Havens are safe from surprise encounters unless it is directly related to the plot or an event.
