Zombie Apocalypse: In Depth Plot + Helpful Info

Plot/Explanation:
It all started out as a cough in Africa. It’s not uncommon to see deadly diseases arise from the third world country, but due to the number of missionaries over seas and the trade going in and out of the country, the sleeping virus was spread very quickly. It wasn’t until people started dying from it that it became a concern of even the World Health Organization, or WHO. During their study of the disease, they came across a very alarming factor: the dead come back to life.

At first it took weeks… then days, then hours, then mere minutes before the virus killed the host and created a new creature from it. This creature could run, it could scratch, bite, and scream. It could not see or feel… but it could hear and smell. It would bite the victims and spread the virus that way, though the virus itself does not seem airborne.

It didn’t take long for the world to essentially shut down. A few groups went to sea while others fled to the cold mountains where the disease would die out… But in some cases and with warm, moving hosts, the virus could catch them even there.

It took merely six months for the virus to spread from Africa to the western coast of North America and many people fled, trying to outrun the disease and find safe zone. One particular group has been stuck within a business building in a large west coast city - perhaps one of the last to be hit by the virus. They must either band together and find a safe place, or go their separate ways.

How will they survive? And who will they find along the way?

The Virus

☣ The virus is transferred via bodily fluids of the Infected getting into their victims (ie. You are bitten or have an open wound and Infected saliva or blood gets into it). It is only contagious and can only be contracted from those who have already been transformed into one of the Infected.

☣ While there is no natural immunity to the virus, there is a 10% chance that if you are bitten/attacked that you may not contract the virus. But why would you want to chance that and endanger yourself and everyone around you? Besides, if someone sees you get bitten, they’re more likely to shoot you anyway to avoid the risk of another enemy. So try to avoid putting yourselves in imminent danger. (We discourage this happening, but if this is something that may be crucial to your plot, please contact the Admins and we can come to a sort of compromise. We don’t need a ton of living bite victims, after all.)

☣ There is no current cure, but some facilities are still trying to find one. The ones that are still up and running are out in the ocean, but some daring researchers and small firms that are still brave (or foolish) enough to remain on the mainland.

☣ Depending on the strain of the virus and the health and immune system of its host, it may take as long as a month for a bite victim to be killed and turned into one of the Infected. However, with stronger strains of the virus, it may only take minutes. It’s truly unpredictable, so treat victims with extreme caution (or just shoot them). The strength of each strain will also dictate the ‘type’ of undead a person will become (discussed more below in The Infected section).

☣ The virus affects its host from the inside out. Those suffering from the virus will experience fever, rotting and failing of internal organs, confusion and madness due to brain decay, internal hemorrhaging, and a rigidness or heaviness of the limbs. To say the least, it won’t be a pleasant death.


The Infected

☣ The monsters that are created as a result of the virus are not called zombies. They are commonly known as “The Infected” in the English-speaking world, but may be known in foreign lands by alternate names.

☣ The Infected can be distinguished by having clouded-over eyes, veins that are pretty apparent, and skin that grays slightly... Otherwise they look the same. With a bit of blood here and there and an odd stench, of course.

☣ All Infected have a heightened sense of smell and hearing, but are essentially blind and have no true sense of touch.

☣ They come in three classes depending on the strain of the virus that caused their death:

• Class 1 – These are formed from the oldest and weakest strain of the virus in which victims were transformed during a span of 2 weeks to a month. Class 1 Infected are characterized by their slow, limping gait and delayed, rigid, or shaky reactions. They are also physically weak and much more ‘brittle’ than Class 2 or Class 3 Infected. They are essentially what comes to mind when one thinks of the usual stereotypical undead. They are commonly called “Classics”.
• Class 2 – These are formed from the middle strains of the virus in which victims were transformed during a span of a few hours to a few days. Class 2 Infected are the most common of all and are characterized by their nearly human-level abilities. They still have a distinct limping gait , but their reaction speed is closer to that of a normal human when compared to Class 1 Infected( though it is still slightly below average). Additionally, they can walk and run somewhat decently, though they are still prone to stumble frequently. They are commonly called “Subs”.
• Class 3 – These are formed from the newest and strongest strain of the virus in which victims were transformed during a span of a few minutes to an hour. Class 3 Infected are the least common and are characterized by a reaction time that is equal to or slightly beyond that of an average human being. They are fast and they lack an extremely evident limp in their gait. Some, depending on the host body, are also stronger physically than the previous classes. They are commonly called “Doppelgängers” or “Dops” due to being the ‘most human like’.
• Hypothetical Class 4 – This is a hypothetical class of Infected that some fear may rise someday if the cure is not found quickly enough. Class 4 Infected victims will be transformed instantaneously and are hypothesized to have enhanced abilities such as inhuman speed and strength, but also may maintain some human intelligence (ie. problem solving skills, but not memories or sympathy). Such would make them a truly terrifying force to be reckoned with. The term that has been coined for them are “Superiors” or “Supers” for short.

☣ Though there are currently three different classes of Infected, they are all pretty stupid and lack basic motor skills, speech, and common sense (so no, they won’t try opening the door with a handle, they’ll try ramming it open first).

☣ If it smells and sounds like an Infected…well, they’ll probably think it’s one of them and ignore it. But only if it’s a pair of Infected around—this tactic definitely won’t work in a group of them. You can’t mask your breath or your heartbeat very well, after all…and they have an extremely keen sense of hearing and smell. So be wary and use common sense. They will also ignore people that have been bitten and have an ACTIVE strain of the virus in their system. They know their brethren—old, new, and future ones alike. 

☣ The Infected can be killed with shots/blows/stabs to the head. Just be careful not to get their blood and guts in your eyes, mouth, nose, etc.
