AU Name: Arabian Nights AU
Warning:This verse will probably contain ridiculous amounts of wish granting and ridiculous wishes in general, epic sword fights with scimitars and the like, poofy pants & scanty shawls, spitting camels, weathermen predicting a 99% chance of shitstorm or should I say sandstorms...and greed. Lots of greed. RPer discretion is advised yo.
Plot or Explanation of AU:
This AU would take place somewhere in some fictional desert... maybe with a larger structure serving as the palace at one edge, with camel stalls, peddler stalls and smaller living quarters littering the rest of the residential piece of desert? There could be other towns a few days travel away, but due to a severe, desert-wide drought travel would be unwise. Nearby oases would be mostly dried up, and those lucky enough to have water in their possession most likely wouldn't part with it for less than an arm and a leg. That doesn't mean those brave enough to face the elements in search of water or anything equally precious/enviable would perish though- they could find caverns with untouched pools of water in their crannies, or piles of treasure, or magical lamps with wish granting inhabitants even.
In short then, the main conflicts would be the water shortage maybe, along with the other harsh realities of desert life (theft, bandit attacks, slavery, the threat of dehydration, etc.) Possible roles could include royalty (Sultan, chief wife of the Sultan, prince, princess), guard, servant, harem member, commoner (peddler, shop owner, etc.), camel keeper/stable boy, bandit, thief/street-rat, desert hermit, genie, and any other roles from desert-set books or other sources of inspiration that we may have missed.
There should maybe be a cap to how many genies are allowed too, as their lamps should be considered a rare find. I also think their powers should have limits... so the basics like committing murder, forcing love, wishing for more wishes, and raising the dead would be off-limit wishes, along with any more we deem belong in that category. Trying to exploit a loophole concerning these off-limit wishes would be allowed, but.. be careful what you wish for, s'all I'm gonna say.
One plot-hole I see though is the drought issue... without a limit to deny it, one wish could end the drought and thus end a big part of the conflict. It might be okay if other conflicts can arise that are less easy to fix, but any thoughts on this or any other foreseeable plot-holes would be appreciated.
Additional Information:
If you find anything concerning proper desert garb, etc. let me know so I can add it in. In the meantime, I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Possible sub-boards:
Maybe... Palace, Marketplace, Residential Area, Out on the Dunes?
Mini-Profile Specifics:
