Ludwig despised being out in the woods so late, but it was about the only opportunity he’d get to catch this “giant spider beast” people kept talking about. They had only described it as some human-sized spider that lured its victims into the woods—and while it seemed to prefer the taste of human males, there were a few reports of it having taken a female or animal victim. Beggars can't be choosers if you're starving and have a limited food source after all... Perhaps that was good enough reason to leave Aster at home…he couldn’t chance the dog getting snatched up by some stealthy spider monster. It’d be best to just go it alone this time. Pushing a few branches out of the way, Ludwig pressed onward into the depths of the forest. It was getting a bit darker and he knew that the sooner he got this threat extinguished, the better. Keeping firm hold of his firearm (which was fitted with a mountable flashlight) in his right hand, he swung the machete in his left in order to clear a few vines out of his way. As for the moment, he could only guess maybe…one or two thing that the locals might be talking about. It was either an actual giant spider – which honestly didn’t seem terribly unlikely after all the things he’s witnessed – or a spider-demon hybrid...thing. Personally, Ludwig hoped for the former. Giant arachnids were way easier to deal with than demons. Regardless, the hunter continued clearing a path for himself as the sun slowly sank behind the trees. He kept an ear and an eye open for anything that moved in the woods, but at the sound of something less than natural, he paused. Squinting and raising his gun, his eyes darted around to try and find the source of...what was that? Some sort of guitar? A sitar or something? Whatever it was, Ludwig could hear it playing in the distance and he closed his eyes for a second in order to pinpoint the direction (which was easier said than done, considering the acoustics of the forest itself). Taking a step in one direction, he paused, carefully listening to ensure that he was on the correct track before taking another step. Then another..and another...he was back to a brisk pace heading toward the sound. But then there was nothing save for the chirp of nocturnal insects and the leaves rustling in the wind. Ludwig stopped and cast a look around, shining his flashlight against the brush. "Who in--"
There was a bloodcurdling scream of fear and agony that sent a chill down the Hunter's spine. With little hesitation, he broke into a run towards the shout. About hundred or so yards later, he felt his foot roll and heard a crunch beneath his foot. Swearing a bit at the inconvenience, he stopped and looked down at the broken flashlight and slowly removed his foot from it. Instinctively, he looked up into the canopy first to ensure he wouldn’t be receiving an aerial surprise and then focused his attention to the surrounding area, shining his light around at the bushes. A glint of whitish silver thread caught his attention and he let his light illuminate the path it seemingly winded down. Clutching the machete tight, he cautiously trekked onward until the single thread ended, and an elaborate web spread out before him. Taking a step back to ensure he wouldn’t be ensnared, Ludwig realized that the web was shaking and that he wasn’t alone. At first, he tensed up, but as he shined his light towards the wriggling victim, he offered a small sigh of relief. “What the hell… Are you alright?” he addressed the man tangled in the web in a hushed voice before moving over to free him. He couldn't help but wonder if he had been the one that screamed a few minutes ago. “Please tell me you and I are the only ones around at the moment…” Ludwig pocketed his gun in order to use the machete to try and slice through the stronger-than-usual silk holding the other man. He could only hope that the giant arachnid creature was out for the time being and that this guy would be willing to cooperate and let Ludwig get him loose...and not make his hunt any more difficult than it was going to be.

The forest was dark. That fact alone didn't matter to Gilbert; what did matter is that he was chasing a creature that could see better in the dark than he could. Was, were, same difference. The point of the matter was that he was currently stuck in the spider’s web, and he was feeling like a very stupid fly. His senses were alert, hearing everything. Small animals moving, but he couldn't hear the beast that had made this web. Sighing, he knew he shouldn't have taken this job, but the lead it promised him, a link to his mother, it was too good to ignore. That's why he was here, he wanted to find the woman who his father had talked about so rarely, the beautiful woman that didn't see her son grow up. He wanted to find out why more than anything. What kind of woman she was? Was she meek and mild? Or a strong hearted one that could strike fear into any disobedient child? And why had she left him with his Father without a word to him? It didn’t matter in the long run, he only wanted a bit of family again since his father's death.
Tensing when he heard the dying wail, he cursed and tried pulling his arm free. He should have been able to save them, he shouldn’t have gotten caught like he did. If he could just reach his belt to get to the knife, he could work on getting himself cut out of this web he had gotten himself caught in. He was supposed to be the hunter, not the prey. And he would make sure that this creature claimed no more lives.
“Verdammt ScheißeI knew I should have invested in those arm sheaths."
His body went still as a figure walked into the small area this trap had been laid in. He had to narrow his eyes as the light was shone on him and briefly in his face, he kept from cursing out the bright light, barely. He knew it wasn’t the monster, as they didn’t need a light, but he hoped that it was someone he could talk into leaving the area, he didn’t need another innocent’s blood on his hands this night.
"What the hell… Are you alright?"
"Bit of wounded pride at being caught and needing help, but no animal bites if that's what you mean. Otherwise I'm just perfect. Don’t appreciate the view much."
And that was frustration being taken out on the man who had come upon him. He hoped the other man didn’t take it personally, but it was a frustrating thing to have gotten himself into a trap and finding himself needing help.
“Please tell me you and I are the only ones around at the moment…”
He could only hold still as the man started cutting him down, trying to not roll his eyes at the man or anything else that might he taken the wrong way.
"Looking for a kuss are you? Well, it's not going to be with me. Once you get me down, you should leave, the woods aren’t safe, not even for someone as bulky as you are…. You look like you’re built like a tank.”
He did look like a walking tank with how tall and muscular he was… taller than Gilbert for sure. If this man demanded to help, inexperienced, he would be annoyed. He didn’t want to have to try to defend this guy…. Even if he did have a machete. Why was he here in the forest anyway.
‘I appreciate the help and all, but why are you here?”

"Bit of wounded pride at being caught and needing help, but no animal bites if that's what you mean. Otherwise I'm just perfect. Don’t appreciate the view much." "I don’t suppose you do,” Ludwig mumbled, his concentration fixed primarily on cutting the strong silvery threads that held the man. He was more concerned with freeing him and keeping a watch out for the monster that was lurking in the woods than he was with keeping a conversation going. "Looking for a Küss are you? Well, it's not going to be with me. Once you get me down, you should leave, the woods aren’t safe, not even for someone as bulky as you are…. You look like you’re built like a tank.”Ludwig rolled his eyes and cut the last strand holding the man up in the web. Rather than catching him, however, he let him fall to the ground with a thud for such an absurd remark. He did however, help him up afterwards. “You aren’t my type,” he stated simply, keeping his flashlight and his machete out. He furrowed his brows at the man’s warning. “You’re one to talk. I could ask you the same, but this is neither the time nor the place. You need to get out of here. I know a path that leads to the edge of the woods that I can show you, but for now, you’re in more danger than I think you realize.” After all, the platinum blonde was the one that had gotten caught in a supernatural being’s web, not Ludwig. For now, Ludwig wouldn’t elaborate on the who, what, and why they needed to leave. For all he knew, this man was just some civilian that had survived a less than stellar encounter with a mythic (perhaps without entirely realizing it, depending on the creature). The last thing Ludwig wanted to do was to cause the other to panic. He’d seen it happen before and it never turned out pretty. The issue wasn’t as pressing as some he had been in, and so Ludwig would have no issue with escorting the man at least half of the way back. Besides, the other seemed to be a bit of a stubborn smart-ass and likely wouldn’t leave any other way. And if the other were to get attacked again…well, it would be much easier to draw out and dispatch the threat.
OoC: Gilbert Beilschmidt sorry it's a bit short and you had to wait so long, but I hope we can go from here <3

“You aren’t my type”
In a different circumstance, Gilbert would have laughed, but not now. It really wasn’t a joking matter, but Gilbert had the tendency to make jokes when he shouldn’t. He was worried, he had no experience with this type of creature, his books didn’t tell him much… and his familiar seemed to have decided that Gilbert could handle this one on his own and didn’t feel the need to inform him of the web he had walked into. After this, the cat wasn’t going to get his tuna. Rolling his eyes again, he braced himself for a fall, and fall he did. It wasn’t quite graceful, but he had managed to twist in such a way that he could avoid major injuries. Once again he was thankful for the training he had and all the scraps he had gotten into during school to teach him how to land.
“I need you to get out of here. I know a path that leads to the edge of the woods that I can show you, but for now, you’re in more danger than I think you realize.”
Gilbert couldn’t help but laugh at that as he stood up and dusted himself off. More danger than he realized, that was a priceless remark. Gilbert was always in danger in this job, that was the very nature of it. He was always skirting the line of life and death, as well as all the hunters that had taken to this life. He just shook his head and moves get his flashlight off the ground from where it had rolled under a bush. Turning it back on, he reached down to his boot to pull out a dagger and twirled it his hand.
“I think you’re the one in more danger than I think you realize. More than just animals roam these woods. Tell me, how much do you know of lore? How much do you believe in myths? You better be the one taking the paths… I’ll save you once since you cut me down, but otherwise, I’m not saving your ass from the things that call this woods home.. things that I’m going to stop from doing to others what I was too save from happening to the poor girl.”
Let this man think that it was a human that roamed the woods that was causing the problems, that was probably safer anyways. Regular humans didn’t need to know the nightmare fuel that fed hunters lives. That’s what they were there for, to help make sure people could live regular lives.
“Now get going, I’m not going to tell you again, these woods are no place for humans without experience.”
And with that, he turned to start heading deeper in the forest, flicking through the different settings on his flashlight, turning the stream different colors… what was best to see blood again…. To help hide his presence more and let it be a surprise when he came to the monster? He’d figure it out by them, along with a plan to set the cave they were sure to have made part of the web on fire. Fire was a sure way to kill these things… that and a weapon he didn’t poses.

As the man fell and gathered the items he had ‘misplaced’ from the nearby brush, Ludwig’s gaze lifted to the trees. There was a bit of a disturbance and a rustle of leaves, but it was nothing bigger than a bat or a nocturnal bird. Nothing to cause alarm, really. His brows pressed together as the man finally rose and took out a dagger from his boot. Clenching his jaw, Ludwig was already put off by the other’s cockiness…and stubbornness. “More than just animals roam these woods. Tell me, how much do you know of lore? How much do you believe in myths? You better be the one taking the paths… I’ll save you once since you cut me down, but otherwise, I’m not saving your ass from the things that call this woods home..”What did HE know of myths and legends? Ludwig silently seethed as the words passed the other’s lips. He was under no obligation to tell the man what exactly had shaped his path and his choices, or the fact that in his youth, he and his friends were attacked by creatures that shouldn’t even exist. Ludwig had no time nor patience to argue or debate who should go where, and by the way the man spoke…it seemed as if they were cut from the same cloth. “...these woods are no place for humans without experience.”That was the spark that ignited Ludwig’s ire. “What I know is that you seem to be an arrogant, ill-prepared fool of a Hunter that’s keen on finding a giant spider-demon hybrid that’s taken to preying on the residents of this town,” Ludwig spat, eyeing the other and his armaments, even as the other continued onward. He didn’t make the insult as a sole means to harm the other, but from what he had witnessed…the other didn’t seem extremely prepared. “Same verdammt reason I’m here, if you want to know the truth..” Ludwig cast a glance at the web, contemplating if it’d be worth salvaging for later, but it was more than likely that the beast that spun it could easily break it, if it wanted. Still…perhaps a small ball of it would be useful. Pausing a second to gather some and tuck it into his jacket, Ludwig retrieved his gun and followed the other man into the bush. There was a certain benefit to working with another hunter--especially if there was an overwhelming difference in numbers. However, Ludwig was almost loathe to suggest a brief partnership, given the other’s attitude. Still… logically, a pair was much more sound against a creature like this than them seeking it solo--especially since it had already managed to subdue the lighter haired man. There was a long pause before Ludwig spoke again. ”As it’s quite evident that neither of us are willing to leave,” he adjusted the brightness of his mounted flashlight, “I propose a brief partnership. Just so we can kill this thing before it kills someone else. Then we can just go our seperate ways. A twig snapped in the distance and a low hiss could be heard. Gilbert Beilschmidt

“What I know is that you seem to be an arrogant, ill-prepared fool of a Hunter that’s keen on finding a giant spider-demon hybrid that’s taken to preying on the residents of this town,”With those words, Gilbert froze in his tracks. He was unused to being called out like that, unused to having someone out him so quickly. That could only mean one thing. Slowly he turned around, his flashlight landing on a nearby bush as he eyed the man. There was just enough radiant light to really look at the man. He was built like a tank, but not in a way that suggested he couldn’t move when he wanted to. He looked as hardened as Gilbert himself knew he could, also like he had seen to many things in his life. Honestly, in a different circumstance, he might have gotten along well with this man; but at this point, it just irritated him and set his instincts on high alert for all the wrong reasons. “Least I’m here trying to help, and the only thing I have to help me prepare for this stuff is the book that was left to me, the rest I’ve learned on my own. If you think you’re so much better than me, then you can stuff it.” ”As it’s quite evident that neither of us are willing to leave, I propose a brief partnership. Just so we can kill this thing before it kills someone else. Then we can just go our separate ways.”
Sighing as he kept listening, he nodded, agreeing that that was probably best. With a monster that could move as quick as a spider, it was usually a good idea to have backup. He knew that was the best way, the way he would have to admit he was just hotheaded about being stuck in the web. “Ja, that probably is the best way… just because we got of to a rocky start doesn’t mean we can’t work together on this… same common goal after all. It was then that he heard something in the bushes and he looked over. There was the creature that they were looking for, behind the man that had saved him. Moving around the same time, he moved to push Ludwig out of the way as one of those legs were reaching for Ludwig, trying to stab him through the chest. Gilbert felt the fuzzy? Was it really fuzzy? Leg rip through his shirt as he twisted, trying to avoid being stabbed himself, trying to avoid getting poisoned.. if this creature was one of the poisonous ones. Ludwig Beilschmidt

Now that seemed to get the other’s attention. Maybe not in the best method possible, but at least the other knew now where Ludwig stood and what he was, more or less. Still that bit of defiance in the other’s eye and tone made Ludwig clench his jaw in irritation. “Least I’m here trying to help, and the only thing I have to help me prepare for this stuff is the book that was left to me, the rest I’ve learned on my own. If you think you’re so much better than me, then you can stuff it.”
As if Ludwig wasn’t?! Naturally, the blond took it the wrong way at first, but as his mind came to pick apart what the man really meant, he dismissed it. Still, he scoffed at that second bit as he moved forward some, continuing on the path before them. “At least you had a damn book…” Ludwig hadn’t been that lucky. All his experiences thus far has been a result of trial and error and good old fashioned research and survival. Though, given the other had a book and said it was left to him, then maybe he had a bit more training than Ludwig realized. Which was a bit curious because why would anyone pass this sort of occupation to their child? Ludwig sure as hell wouldn’t want his children following in his footsteps regarding this sort of thing. He’d want them safe and prepared sure, but… He drew himself out of the thoughts before he could get swept further into his own mind. He nodded as the other seemed to come around and agree that a partnership would be best. The rustle of bushes and the hiss was louder now. Instinctively, Ludwig had begun to raise his gun, but Gilbert pushed him out of the way--nearly knocking him to the ground. Here was a flurry of dark black legs and hair and pale skin as the creature moved to lash out at Gilbert now that the other hunter had taken Ludwig’s place. Its red eyes glinted in the dim glow of the flashlight and it opened its mouth with another hiss as one hand raised up to slash at Gilbert. Ludwig raised the gun and took two shots--aiming for the chest--the heart… just something vital. A headshot would not be the best to go for right now in the dark and since it was such a small target, however, even if he didn’t kill it outright, he could at least draw its attention away from the paler male in order to allow him to escape or react. Gilbert Beilschmidt we can fight with this one a little while and then move on or you can have him kill/fatally wound it. Either way we can take turns controlling it

Gilbert didn’t know why he did what he did, except it was part reflex. He was a hunter, thus he would not allow others to get injured if he could prevent it. Why he pushed him out of the way and not just shot at the thing, well, it was reflex and he knew that this action would be quicker than anything else. For now though, he took the opportunity provided by the shot to get out of the way, to help his new partner defeat this evil who has now tried to take out both of them. Moving back to where Ludwig stood, he got his bearings again. The shots hit their mark, wounding it and causing it to draw back some. Pulling out his own guns, he aimed for the legs it was standing on, pulling the triggers, hoping that he could get it injured enough that they could get closer and take it out, then burn the body. These things were best burnt, but he didn’t want to start a forest fire either. He chanced a glance at the other man, having to trust in him to have his back in this case. It was odd, but they did have the history of a hunter together. If you couldn’t trust another hunter in a situation like this, there was no one that could be trusted. It didn’t matter that they had just been arguing. They had a common enemy, one that they could take out. “Since you seem to know more about this thing, what’s the plan?”Honestly, he would go with anything about now, seeing as his one plan had gone out the window as soon as he had been captured in that net. And of course his companion had vanished at the moment. He'd have to take that up with him after they both survived this. Ludwig Beilschmidt
